Founded at Northeastern in 1992, the Massachusetts Eta chapter of SigEp practices the Balanced Man Program, a no-hazing no-pledging approach to constantly bettering its members. We hold our core values of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love to heart in an effort to lead balanced and meaningful lives.
Service & Philanthropy
The Massachusetts ETA chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon prides itself on the impact it has made to both the school and surrounding community. We work hard to continually improve our service and philanthropic efforts in order to best help those in need and make our community a better place. Through our 25+ years of hard work we have had the privilege to work with many amazing organizations and create lasting partnerships within our community.
Tobin Community Center
Our partnership with the Tobin Community center was created as a way to give back to the neighborhood of Mission Hill, the area in which most of our brothers live. This has been recognized by Northeastern Greek Life as the best service partnership of the year multiple times. Each week we have brothers go to the community center to assist local children with their homework, play chess and act as both mentors and positive role models. More recently, our brothers who are familiar with 3D printing have had the opportunity to run 3D printing classes.
Mission Hill Little League
Continuing our chapter's initiative to create a positive impact within our community, we have partnered with the Mission Hill Little League. Each summer our brothers volunteer their time to coach local little league games. Our brothers are given the opportunity to be leaders and positive role models to local children while running practices during the week and coaching games on the weekend.
Paint the Night Red
Every winter we host Paint the Night Red along with the sisters of Alpha Epsilon Phi. Paint the Night Red is a date auction that takes place in the on campus ballroom. Our most recent auction (2022) set a new record, successfully raising over $20,000 in just three hours. The funds are split between SigEp and AEPhi benefiting the Red Sox foundation and the Elizabeth Glaser Foundation for Pediatric Aids. We are proud to co-host this amazing event each year and create a lasting impact within the entire Greek Community.
Castle Island Ocean Cleanup
This past Fall, incoming new members took the opportunity to give back to the local community and partnered with COASTSWEEP, a statewide initiative aimed at removing trash from local beaches. Throughout this partnership, our brothers were able to remove over 100 pounds of trash from Castle Island and provide valuable metrics to COASTSWEEP in hopes of discovering sources of marine debris and finding long term solutions to keep Boston's beaches safe and clean.
Sigma Phi Epsilon Charity Hockey Game
The charity hockey game is a new initiative which was created by one of our brothers, Jack Geisler. He worked with Kappa Sigma and the rink manager at Mathews arena to put on an amazing charity ice hockey game. Special jerseys were created for all those who played and two were auctioned off to help raise more money for the Bahamas' Hurricane Relief. This was an extremely fun event for the greek community and we are looking forward to our rematch this year.
